Is it possible to actually use wifi mesh networks?

Are there really working solutions for reasonable money? Google gives out either a theory or promotional materials from a manufacturer that cannot be trusted. Is it possible to self-configure such equipment, or can only specially trained specialists do this?
by mesh network, I mean access points that are interconnected via radio and provide wifi network coverage of the territory

Если речь именно про компьютерную сеть, то как-то читал про город, вроде в Испании, куда не было шнурка с интернетом.
Так вот жители в итоге и построили свою городскую сеть в виде wifi роутеров
