Is it ok to use wifi instead of lan in the office?

We will actually make a branch of the company, is there a place to buy nettops for everyone and build the entire soho network on pure wifi? 2017, after all... What are the pitfalls? In total there will be 7 PCs and one server with every little thing, such as a file hosting service, print, firewall and 1C: Document Management.

If something more than e-mail and Internet service will be required from nettops, then no.

It will be more fun for sure. It is better not to build an office network on wifi.

The cost of a GOOD WiFi network on Aruba or Cisco or Motorola equipment will be MORE EXPENSIVE than laying SCS.
Plus, any burnt or shorted device, or the actions of competitors, can interrupt the work of your company for a long time. Jammers in the 2.4 GHz range near the office, and that's it.
And if there is a bad WiFi network, without coverage analysis, without auto power control, and without prioritization, then only SSH will work well. Even with RDP, with its low need for a channel, there are brakes.
For about 10 of your devices, SCS will cost 50-70 thousand rubles, if with a good switch.

WiFi as a bonus for workers is a great idea, but, so to speak, lan goes into subakshen. As long as things are like this. It seems like there was one equipment manufacturer that specializes specifically in corporate wifi networks, but I can’t remember their name.
But as for me, the cable, like a Kalashnikov assault rifle, is simple, reliable, unpretentious! =)

Several times, customers have tried to make the network "entirely on Wi-Fi".
In principle, it works up to some limits of the load and the number of employees.
After that, it lays down very easily and easily.
And there is Wi-Fi neighbors, which interferes .....
PS:
You can still try on the new 5GHz.
On the old 2.4 GHz - it's not worth it.

safety in the ass. zero savings. no network quality. but the IT specialist has new tights! Isn't that the point of his work?

It will be normal only for admins - especially if there are many young and beautiful employees among the users :) Because they will spend the day and night at the user's places :) It will not be very good for the users. As a means of flipping through VKontakte at lunch - it will do, even if the whole office rushes there :) As a means of file sharing, network printers, 1C and other things - dance, dance, dance until you drop :) This is not counting the fact that any static protection with a key breaks anylength - it's only a matter of accumulating a sufficient array of traffic and the issue of access to your internal network is only a matter of time. This is not counting various tricks with the forced selection of an access point of neighbors for man-in-the-middle. This is not counting the banal jamming of the signal, frequency crossing, dead zones in the coating, reinforced concrete walls and ceilings. This is not counting the trite hanging access points etc etc etc ...

1C is not immediately available.
And depending on how the file hosting service is used, I have 10 PCs pulling the iso image of tplink. Although 10 PCs for the Internet and all the rules.
nettops? Expensive and difficult to fix.
