Nginx

Is it necessary to remove nginx installed via pkg to enable the module?

Nginx was installed using the command: pkg install nginx.
Now there is a desire to install mod_security, for this nginx needs to be rebuilt from ports.
You will have to perform these actions on a combat wheelbarrow, so I'm worried about further performance.
Is it necessary to do pkg delete nginx or can I roll "over"?
[upd]
I spent a lot of time experimenting on a virtual machine. I came to the conclusion that it's too early to install mod_security on nginx without apache.
Since Google already displays this question in the top ten, I will give a recommendation to those who are looking, look aside:

@romy4

you can build it with --prefix=/usr/local and it will run in parallel. then just replace the old one with the new one
