Is it necessary to install previous versions of the .NET Framework when installing a new one?

And is it enough to install the NET Framework Version Redistributable Package in order for a .NET application to work?

You need to install the version that you need. They are all independent, therefore, if you need to run software under the 2nd .NET and under the 4th, then you need to install both the 2nd and the 4th.

It depends on what version of the framework the application needs. Older versions are definitely not interchangeable

When installing 4, applications written in 3.5 require the installation of this framework.
