Is it legal to interchange versions of Windows between legal users?

Here is a practical situation. My friend and I have laptops bought with Windows pre-installed. I have a licensed Win7 and I want to try Win8, but he, on the contrary, has a licensed Win8, but for practical reasons, he would like to have Win7 on his laptop. An idea arose - to establish what everyone wants, while exchanging the legal keys-identifiers that we have. It seems to me that we will not break anything with him by making such a chench, and both operating systems will still remain licensed, although they will change the host computer. I am wrong?

If my memory serves me right, but the pre-installed Windows are allowed to be used ONLY with the PC with which they were sold. So such an exchange is not legal from the point of view of Microsoft.

in modern laptops, the activation key for windows is sewn into bios), it will be legal to refuse windows, get money back and buy the versions that you need
