Is it customary to ask for a change in the hour rate on an open contract?

Hello everyone
. Here's a question: let's say we opened a contract for x USD/h, and I want to raise the hour rate, say, by 5 USD (x+5 usd/h in the end). What should or could be the grounds for such a request? For example, I don't have enough time for your project and I need more reward - is it constructive or not?

Yes, good. if the complexity has changed or the work has become more productive. there shouldn't be any questions at all.
if it's just because I "work for a long time" - why on earth? there is enough shitty code everywhere, including the pretentious "senior" developers. if there is no progress, then you need to print your noodles for the same money.

Well, you should have reasons and not us, you don’t have enough time, they will raise your rating, you still don’t have enough time, as a result, the client will simply pay more, some kind of idiotic argument

Yes, quite constructively, especially if the client is satisfied with the current work and the workflow is going well.

I see 2 ways to improve.
1. The customer himself comes to the idea of the need for an increase
2. Justify the increase
These 2 methods worked for me. In the first case, I simply asked the client to review my work. And he himself came to the idea that it is not bad to raise. In the second case, I justified the costs of changing the tax policy in Russia (tax on google), and laid down a little more than new VAT costs (I still began to pay VAT)
