Is it convenient to develop on WLS or install Linux OS nearby?

I want to install WLS for programming under the server side (PHP, Python, Docker, etc) and under the web (JS). The Internet is full of tutorials on how to install proggs or WLS itself, but there are no reviews from proggers on what it is like to program on WLS. What can be pitfalls? Or is it better to install Linux separately, or through a virtual box?

WLS is, first of all, a way to run various Linux services in the terminal, but not a full-fledged environment for work.
The point of using WLS is to start the necessary services and continue development without leaving the Windows graphical environment. But if you want to develop in the vim / emacs terminal, then this is quite possible.

WSL 2, unlike WSL 1, has a fully functional Linux kernel with full system call compatibility. This allows a range of applications (Docker and others) to be used inside WSL 2.
