Is it a good idea to write a mobile chat backend in NodeJS, given that there is no time to learn XMPP?
Can you suggest a quick way to raise the server part?

NodeJS can be used as a server. It all depends on the scale and protocol of communication. It can't handle too many people. In Google you can find ready-made solutions with an HTML5 client
