Is it a good idea to study to be an information security specialist?

Hello, I'm going to enter the IS, but they write on the Internet that they will pay less than if I work as a coder (unlearn to be a programmer). They also write that the university does not provide normal knowledge in this area. Tell me, can you still choose programming?

If you go for money, you can not go to either virgins or security

You can succeed in any field, the main thing is not to put salary in the first place. It is necessary to realize that going to work you do not go to hard labor, and that by working you create good. You need to know your worth. A good specialist is always expensive

Well, not all universities are bad.
and information security is not a "monolithic" specialty, some areas are in demand and are paid well.
IMHO, but taking into account the experience in the last 10 years in information security, if the topic of information security is interesting and programming is not without interest, look for something in the direction of vulnerability analysis. specialization at the junction and in demand.

And you mentally imagine the future work:
1. the chief is most likely from the former FSB officers, with his own "turn of mind"
2. Most likely there will be tough discipline like in the army, but it happens the other way around
3. Well, and most importantly, you will have to watch people, read their mail, correspondence in instant messengers, analyze where they went to the sites, etc.
This is always such a job, especially for newcomers to information security in large companies.
Do you like it?

I got an education in "information technology" and during my studies at the university they just superficially talked about all the tricks, a little bit of web programming, c ++, assembler, system security, local networks and so on. Having tried everything, I got carried away with mobile development, completely self-taught. I think you still need to understand where you are going and what lies ahead, whether you like it. After all, all work in IT should bring real pleasure, otherwise waiting for the end of working days to run home is not enough for yourself and for a long time. Yes, and I know from experience that the university will not teach you anything, self-education plays a huge role. And then I went to the magician to extend the hostel xD
