Is high-quality self-study in mathematics possible?

Good evening.
I have been studying school mathematics for a year now 3 times a week (4 hours a week).
I thought about self-study, I was hooked by 1 quote from the book "My Own MBA":

Many self-taught students will easily outdo PhDs, masters and bachelors from top universities.

Ludwig von Miesen
Australian economist.
The thought is as follows: you can do self-study for better results.
But in order to take such a step, I need to be sure that I can learn mathematics well without a tutor.
Are there any books for self-study?
And can books replace a tutor?

Any textbook involves self-study. A school teacher is a luxury that modern society can afford.
