Is front-end “designer” experience necessary?

I choose the field of IT and the front-end direction became interesting, the question is: do you need design thinking, feel (call it what you want)? I have never painted in my life (apart from some art lessons there, etc.). Maybe I'm confusing something and all this is not necessary? If you still need it, then is it worth starting at all, if, well, the brain really doesn’t fumble for designs?
