Is Coursera valued by employers?
It sounds a bit silly, but at least someone takes into account Kurser / edx IT certificates? Especially interested in Western employers. Let's say a person has a not quite profile diploma of the first higher education and a carload of these very certificates with experience.
In my opinion, at all these general educational sites, the level is too superficial, both for paid ones and for free ones. And getting them is a waste of time. Dispel my myths and misconceptions..

Is there one great way to answer any question like "Is [Insert word here] valued by employers?" - put yourself in the place of the employer.
Forget about the real you for a moment and just imagine that you have to get a person on the team. You received 15 resumes, someone has a higher education, someone does not have it, and someone has work experience in the United States, for example. And someone only has pet-projects. And someone else received a diploma on Coursera.
Then sit down and think for a couple of minutes what will impress you and what will not. This will be the answer to your question.
PS: So I conducted such a thought experiment and personally came to the conclusion for myself that at least a course on Coursera is better than nothing at all . But it's me. How many people, so many opinions.
they are little interested in your diploma
they are little interested in what courses you took
they are interested in your knowledge
all this applies to people with at least little experience, and not about the first job.
you need to understand that in a year of work you usually get more practical knowledge than in five years of study at the university, and if we take into account our education, then more often you get more knowledge in a month.
It will be a plus, but nothing more. These certificates will not save you from tests, interviews, coding and do not guarantee automatic employment. Like any other diploma, certificate, certificate... It doesn't matter if it's from a university or from coursers.
Whether you spend time on them or not is up to you. This is just one of the ways to gain knowledge (which should be the goal, not some kind of certification).
In general, all the courses that are held there are conducted by different, quite top-end universities, and the certificate is issued on behalf of this educational institution, and not on behalf of the coursers or any other similar online educational analogue.
I recently ran into this problem myself. He was part of the team responsible for recruiting new employees. I was in the "skin" of the employer. As practice has shown, the courses themselves show that a person is inclined and able to educate himself. It also illustrates his horizons and area of interest. having certificates is definitely a plus. But keep in mind that Coursera is a platform. Therefore, it is not the certificate itself that is important, but that. what kind of course was completed and how a person can use the knowledge gained. In my situation, I did this, there were three candidates with diplomas (certificates) from Coursera. look at the subject of the course. gave on a trial task on the subject of courses. And already by how people coped, how they thought - a further decision was made on employment. I think many employers would do the same. As a summary: a diploma is a plus in the case when a person confirms with practical skills and the ability to use the acquired knowledge. Otherwise, it's more of a downside.
