Is cloud storage worth it?
Hey!
It is necessary to organize a file storage in the territory of America. There is a dilemma, take a traditional server, or storage in the cloud, somewhere in Azure.
There are huge fat cons here and there, but in this case I'm interested in traffic. As far as I understand, it is most profitable to take a server with unlimited traffic and, as usual, with a 10-100 Mbps communication channel by default and expand it to 1Gbps-10Gbps for a tidy sum.
Of course, it's easier to take the cloud, but for whom is it made? In Amazon S3, 1 gig of outgoing traffic costs 4 rubles and a few kopecks. If we take for example a site like 9gag with 10,000 people per day and an average traffic consumption of 250mb per person. As a result, ~ 10,000 rubles per day only for traffic.

Whoever considered how much the infrastructure in the Amazon really costs is not laughing in the circus.
In most cases, a dedicated server is more profitable, but as noted above, a specific case must be considered.
Whatever you count, buying your own server and putting it in your server room will be many times cheaper.
If you need a channel (that is, only in the data center), then the option is possible - to independently purchase the server and host it from the provider (there is a way to save money by buying desktop hardware and hosting it from 'not serious' providers).
Renting a ready-made server can only be profitable when renting for a short time, and for comparison, ready-made cloud storage becomes more expensive than solutions above in 2-3 months.
Everywhere you look, everywhere cloud providers charge unreasonably large amounts of money for data storage, some hide it in the cost of traffic (amazon), some in rent .. and most importantly, there are situations when none of the features that are pluses for them is required , there are data that are not a pity to lose, there are - which are rarely needed online, there are - those that can be stored at all with clients ... i.e. own storage is an opportunity to optimize the maintenance and acquisition of iron.
Of the big minuses - big starting expenses, not smeared for the entire period of operation.
