I own a site with a narrow theme, which has a considerable number of inadequate competitors. Four months ago, very strong attacks began on our server, because of which two hosters managed to abandon us: FirstDedic ®.RU. Moreover, we ordered hosting with protection from the latter, which had the inspiring name "DDoS GUARD". As you might have guessed, we were frozen only in this way, because of which we lost a large number of audience.
They just didn’t ddos ​​us, but the limit was a four-gigabit syn-flood with IP address spoofing. And they re-read the Packet Filter documentation from cover to cover, and danced with a tambourine ...
The problem is that our budget limit is 4,000 rubles a month for server costs, or we can spend no more than 40,000 rubles at a time to buy our own modest machine, on which we will put FreeBSD to host the site and perform some other important things for task project.
We are thinking about buying our own machine so that there is less headache, but then the question arose: can an ISP impose sanctions due to DDoS? How smart is it to host a server at home?
