They make up. It is better to look at statistics for specific sites and determine what to type for. On duty, I often crawl on the sites of European companies - many have full (including styles) support for ie6. If you work for China, you shouldn't forget about ie6, I'm not talking about the eight.
Usually, those who shout about not supporting the G8 are simply not able to support it in a normal way, because they want to use familiar tools, new versions of plugins and libraries, etc., i.e., in fact, they are simply lazy. In fact, for almost a year now, in principle, I haven’t made layouts for IE below 9, the only thing I write is small fixes so that the content doesn’t float and is readable (although with the correct layout, it doesn’t float anyway). I immediately tell all customers that no ie below 9, otherwise we will spend half a day writing CSS Expressions until the end of time.
