Is a NAS suitable for a web developer?

I am a front-end developer hosting my projects on VPS. But now there is a need to purchase a NAS network storage, I would like to kill two birds with one stone, host my projects on a server and have a storage for files.
I write the backend on Node JS
Can you please tell me if nas can be both a file storage and a web server?
Is it possible to install Linux on the NAS?
What limitations will I have to face compared to a rented VPS?
Can you even suggest solutions?

Linux is usually installed on NAS's. But "out of the box" there is also a lot of everything "for the convenience of the user", as a result of which glitches and brakes often occur. A variant of the example is "apps" in Nextcloud.
I do not rule out that you should look towards a machine like the HP MicroServer. There you can store files and expand in terms of development.
However, it will be necessary to raise and configure everything on your own.
