Is a laptop required at a technical university?

I plan to enter one of the leading St. Petersburg universities next year, in the direction related to programming. Will I need a laptop for lectures, or can I get by with a home desktop?

A year later, wangyu questions of the following nature:
"Do I need an air freshener for going to the toilet?"
"Do I need an IDE to compile my C++ projects?"
"Is it necessary for a designer to dress stylishly?"

Yes. Labs and more. And get ready right away that you will need to learn a lot outside the university program. And always keep a couple of books on the technology languages with which you decide to work on your laptop. USB internet is also desirable. Not everywhere has wifi.

At lectures, you need to listen / analyze, write down (important / interesting points for you) ask questions if something is not clear (well, so as not to knock the lecturer off his main plan and not to load him heavily) + ask just interesting questions at the end.
The laptop will only distract during lectures !
But for finishing dz at the university. Delivery dz. This is the best option. Since usually the software on the machines is the old version, and you did it, of course, in the latest version.
+ there is no pair, you can sit somewhere to code (and not waste time).
Perhaps open your office and there a laptop will be very useful to you.

a voice recorder will most likely come in handy at lectures, but it won’t hurt at laboratory work, since there are calculations that are more convenient to do in matkad \ matlab \ mathematics and usually computers in universities are outdated

I used a laptop when I was in college. After typing, I also managed to read it again, while the rest wrote in a notebook. If you need to find information quickly - Ctrl + F, backup - dropbox, you don’t need to carry notebooks, and who needs to be allowed to write off, just drop the document onto a USB flash drive. The only negative is the battery charge, but this already depends on the laptop and the availability of outlets.
