Is 1 GB of RAM enough for nginx + redmine (passenger) + mysql + php + git + svn?

For 3-4 years I have been using shared hosting for $10/month with 512 MB of RAM where all of the above gets along quite well (although there is a funny feature - php and mysql processes are not included in this limitation), but for redmine there are only two workers (each eats up to 200 MB :() is not enough. I would like more

1) Therefore, I thought about switching to VDS (for the same $ 10 / month, but already 1 GB of RAM), but I didn’t use it before, a natural question arose: is the specified amount of RAM enough and will it work faster? Or maybe just pay the hoster another $7 for an extra 512 MB of RAM?

From what should be:
* nginx
* redmine (passenger is currently used, most likely it will remain so)
* git
* svn
* php (it will be either ipb or wordpress, maybe a few more small projects)

Big attendance is not planned (actually for myself).

2) The second part of the question: where, in fact, to move? On Habré, they mainly advise: hetzner.de, server4you.com and digitalocean.com I myself tend to the latter (bribes SSD and rather detailed instructions on how to set everything up).

3) But the third question arises: where is it better to place the server? Better Europe?

4) And the last question: what OS to use: CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian something else (didn't work with anything, so the difference is only in the name)

If you need RAM, then openvz.io is better here

1-2) In theory, everything should work stably, however, until you check it, you won’t say. On DO, for example, the payment is monthly, and it seems even postpaid, i.e. check question price up to $10.
3) The closer the better, however, to work with redmine, the more “for yourself” ping is not very critical for you.
4) If you have not worked with anything, take Ubuntu, because this is the most popular OS and there is a lot of information on it on the net.

On DO, you can definitely upgrade the tariff from a working vps. You just have to knock it out for the upgrade, so this is the last question in my opinion)

Eomy - I use it now, also ssd, it works very fast. For me, in general, 512mb was enough for a similar configuration, a tariff that costs $10 per year.

I use DO (tariff 10 USD), vesta panel, almost everything that you listed is there, there are 16 sites, half of them are online stores. If interested, I can throw off the load statistics in a personal.
Before Vesta, I had never tried CentOS before, after a week of mastering it, it seemed to me even more convenient than ubunta, but this is my personal opinion of course)

1) A gigabyte is enough if ipb is not huge (not much more than a couple of thousand threads)
2-3) not important, for this money everything is approximately the same level.
4) ubuntu - answers to questions will be the easiest to google

depending on the average load. in any case, if you catch habra, the server will go down immediately. I can offer my vps prices should please (from $ 6.04) - globalnet
