Does anyone have statistics on how many people in Russia install applications from the market? Even free ones.
To do this, you need to attach a credit card, which stops many.

You need to choose which is more promising - a mobile web application (based on jqtouch, etc.), or an application under the appstore.

Since the application is niche, all sorts of top 25 will not help in promotion.

you don’t need a credit card for free ones - there is a none item ;-)
install a lot. Specifically look for in the West there are application aggregators. for a small paid account they will show you detailed statistics
