.io domain zone - what did I miss?
I noticed that recently *.io domains (the national top-level domain for the British Indian Ocean Territories worth £72/year) are becoming more and more popular, especially in web-development topics and startups.
What did I miss? Why is it so? Has there been any association / decoding of the abbreviation IO?

I like all these answers a la "basic from the basics", answering self-invented heresy.
The .io domain zone is the top-level domain allocated to the British Indian Ocean Territories (wiki). There is a whole interesting story about him. In general, at one time this territory was transferred to the Americans, on which they built a military base, because of which many people suffered and were expelled from their land.
And the registration of this domain zone is a kind of tacit support for this people and paying attention to this situation.
Of course, many people use it as an IT topic, regarding io as input \ output, but this is tantamount to coming up with something like .com - it's a computer and thinking that everyone believes in it.
Do not mislead people of interest, if you do not know, it is better not to answer at all.
