Inventory, collection of information and monitoring of workstations under Windows?

Good afternoon.
Could you share your experience, what is used in your organizations to inventory hardware and software, audit and monitor workstations under Windows?
I see a solution with installing an agent on workstations, which will periodically send data to the server about installed software, connected equipment, user logins and other goodies.
As an example, I found the " Realite " system, but it seems that the creators abandoned their product (they did not respond to a request for a demo version and the news on the site was last updated in 2009).

@cst

checkcfg (checkcfg.narod.ru) in the logon script.
Simple, farm-like, but it works.

if you still start from Windows, then you can use the following (viewing all information is carried out through the browser):
glpi + ocsinventory is an
ideal bunch IMHO.
zabbix

We are also implementing openAudit now, in the pilot version the system showed itself well, the incomprehensible support for UTF-8 confuses (stupidly does not work)
