Inventory and computer names: Where is the serial number?

I read enough information about naming computers in a cooperative network and found so far, the normal answer is ( XXX-Y-SSSSSSSSS), where XXX is the name of the organization, Y is the type of device (laptop, desktop, printer, etc.)
Or, does anyone else have any ideas for naming computers?
In general, where to get the serial number from laptops is understandable, but what to do if it concerns, let's say, ordinary system engineers?

They wrote to you about serials, but I would go further - I would use serials as they did in Atlassian on Jira:
JIRA for asset management: Overview
JIRA for asset management: Inventory setup
JIRA for asset management: Workflow setup
JIRA for asset management: Reporting setup
JIRA for asset management: Physical implementation
In fact, the serial number is hidden in the tag of the device, closed in a QR code. Conveniently. But frozen. To the advantages of such an inventory system, I want to note that you will see the entire life cycle of a piece of iron in the inventory. You need a QR code scanner and printer, Jira and desire.

you need uniqueness with the device, you can make, for example, a bunch of macadres + Uid HDD.

This is not a serial number, but an Inventory number in your company

You have an honest company, you bought Windows, there are stickers on the cases - so use the serial numbers of the Windows.

Yes, like, as I remember, serial numbers also began to be written on new cases, even with barcodes, so that it would be easier to inventory, so there have been on monitors and printers for a long time. If you want to inventory through the network, then for example, enter the necessary serial numbers / inventories in the additional information of the Windows network name.
But in this case, the most important thing when taking inventory / registration is to personally monitor the accounts of how they create cards, which was not like: "Samtron Computer", "Laser Printer", "PC, scanner, modem", etc., and each device hung on a separate card, then there will be no problem finding it.
System blocks are usually installed as a whole, and motherboards / operatives / brooms and other iron are written off as materials / parts for repairs.

And who's stopping you from assigning a serial number yourself? - none. You can stick a PC passport in which all its characteristics will be described, as well as its serial number by which you will register it in the management database (this can be 1C UT or 1C BP or other software in your organization). On each passport you can put the seal of the organization and your signature.
Create an appropriate database with all the serial numbers of your PCs and their characteristics.

Either by serial numbers, or by inventory according to data from the accounting department. Next, make stickers with a qr code if it is an inventory number and keep a table of correspondence between serial numbers and inventory numbers. This is best done by accountants.
A good program for inventorying everything and everything glpi is open software. Inventory not only system units, but also monitors, printers, software. In general, everything.
Installed in 5 minutes, well, 15, on Linux without any preparation.
