Intellij IDEA not or not only for Java?

IntelliJ IDEA

Jetbrains have their own ide for certain languages:
python - PyCharm
php - PhpShtorm
For example, PhpShtorm includes all the functionality of WebShtorm.
Intellij IDEA, which seems to include all these products, but only with plugins.
I read somewhere on Habré that all the functionality of individual products gets into these plugins, but only with a delay.
That's the question itself - is this really the situation with plugins and does it make sense to purchase idea instead of PhpShtorm and PyCharm separately?
I would also be glad to have links to official documentation where this issue is covered and / or the experience of people who asked a similar question.

I won’t tell you about pycharm, but the functionality of IDEA and phpstorm in terms of PHP is the same.
The difference is that IDEA has a lot of extra functionality that is completely unnecessary and clutters up the interface. And she eats more memory.
But, I think the fact that using one IDE is more convenient than using two will cover these shortcomings.

I use phpstorm and php is there as a plugin. Considering Idea's price, it's quite possible that installing the php plugin will give it the same functionality. Have you tried the demo version?
