Installing Ubuntu on an external HDD?
I want to install Ubuntu on an external HDD. I tried to do it through a virtual machine, but then Ubuntu simply does not load, an error occurs. Maybe try to install on the HDD in normal installation mode? And if so, will it be normal to boot Windows without a connected HDD (a pair with a hornbeam is shorter)?
Thanks to all.

If your motherboard supports booting from a USB-HDD, then there is no problem. The only thing is that each time you have to switch the boot priority in the BIOS settings.
If you want to boot from a portable HDD on different computers, then simply burn the disk image through the program https://unetbootin.github.io/ and select start without installation when the system boots, and here it is live OS
2. If everything goes only on For the 1st computer, it is best to physically disconnect the remaining disks from the motherboard and leave the one on which the Linux system will be installed (for the safety of breaking the disk),
after which, calmly, without fear of anything to assemble the operating system
, connect the disconnected early disks.
When starting the computer, boot into the boot menu and select the disk from which you want to boot (F8, F9, F12, Esc), depending on the motherboard.
