Installing Ubuntu 10.10 over Windows 7

Yesterday I tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 on top of Windows 7 and ran into a problem.

There is a hard drive divided into two partitions (system and for any garbage) and a second hard drive (also divided into two parts: for garbage and for Acronis Secure Zone). Here on the system and tried to put it. First, I deleted it to zero, then created an ext4 file system (logical partition) in it, mounted it to "/" and a swap partition. I left the rest of the partitions as they were, mounted /windows/distr, etc.

The bottom line is that after installing and rebooting, the BIOS writes that the MBR was not found (it doesn’t matter which hard one to boot from).

I tried to beat the system partition into three parts, where I mounted the third one as /boot - it did not help.

There was also an idea to leave the hard partition itself as a partition for the bootloader, and not the partition, but I was afraid to lose all the information on the hard one, although this is probably the solution.

In general, I put Ubuntu for the second time in my life and for the first time with partitioning. In general, how can I do everything according to my mind:

1. Install Ubuntu on the system partition;
2. Leave two partitions as is, but mount at boot;
3. Don't touch ASZ at all

ubuntologia.ru/installation#partitions-setup did not help

Why not format both screws? :) For, as you say, the rest of the sections are all bullshit.
