Installing a Web Server on Mac OS X
Hello!
The other day I started getting acquainted with Mac OS X 10.9. And ran into a problem. It is not clear what is the best way to install a web server.
As far as I understand, Apache and PHP are pre-installed with the OS and you can use them and not invent anything, but what if you want to update PHP to the latest version, and not use what Apple offers us? There are some systems for installing software like Homebrew and MacPorts, but if I install and configure the Apache + PHP + MySQL bundle through them, will Apache built into the OS conflict with it?

What fucking advice!
Install homebrew and install any php from there, at least 5.4, at least 5.5, at least Apache, at least nginx. brew puts everything in /usr/local, in fact there may be problems, but everything is solvable.
Although. if I'm not mistaken, I use the default apache, I just installed php from here: php-osx.liip.ch it solves all the problems itself and everything is ok so far (10.9)
Have you considered the virtual machine option? Install Virtualbox / vmware, figure out how to forward the required port into it, and have at least ten Apaches without clogging the main system.
OSX server - installed as a separate software for the desktop version. The web server (as well as other services) rises in just a couple of clicks
