Inexpensive video surveillance for the home: the choice of platform and implementation?

Hello.
I choose video surveillance for a private house:
- fixing what is happening in the archive - local and / or network;
- three cameras, the distance to the scene of events is no more than 10 meters;
- notification when fixing movement by mail or sms;
- minimum maintenance;
- it is desirable to automatically restore surveillance after turning off and on the electricity, which often happens.
Implementation options:
— separate typical recorder of analog cameras: four channels, network, hard disk;
- reanimated old system unit, supplemented with a video capture board; you can combine analog and digital cameras;
- several Chinese IP cameras, connect to the router;
- unaccounted for option.
I will be glad to any advice.

I would take an old system unit, install some special software on it and connect IP cameras in the right amount. The advantages of this solution: no need to bother with the capture board, if necessary, the cameras can be thrown onto the Internet. I don’t advise you to contact Chinese registrars of analog cameras: I came across them twice, both times I didn’t like it. It's probably a matter of luck though.
As for software solutions, I can recommend the free version of AxxonNext: 16 channels, terabytes of archive, detectors. You can work both with Chinese noname devices (if they support ONVIF, PSIA, or simply know how to send video via RTSP), and with something more decent. In the latter option, you can manage both camera settings and use built-in camera detectors (that is, those that do not load the server).

Again, it would be easier.

+ Ivideon's "cloud" service.
Of the equipment - only cameras and a router ...

Implemented Beward IP cameras in a wholesale warehouse. 1 camera - $150. + PoE adapter ~ $20
Another switch ~ $100.
The video server is a simple system unit with a 3 TB hard drive.
Bevard comes with free software for Windows. Comfortable enough and not too buggy.
Implemented such
There are the same ones, only with wifi
Well, free software

I would look towards the old sistemnik + avreg up to 4 cameras free can work with both analog cameras and IP. All your Wishlist is implemented there out of the box. Look at the cameras from the budget. I categorically do not advise you to contact Chinese registrars, they hang, lose the signal, the recording falls off, the motion detector works disgustingly.

I recently tested the DCS-942L camera in practice . It has an infrared motion sensor and an image change motion sensor. Connects to the router via LAN or WiFi, can send pictures and video fragments to email / FTP when motion is detected. I don’t know how to help in your situation with sending SMS, but it seems to cope with everything else. After turning it off / on, it restores wifi connection in about 30-60 seconds and continues to function.
About the external server was correctly noticed in the comments: if someone gets through, he will guess to take away the equipment. But in principle, a system unit with a local FTP server can be very carefully hidden somewhere.
Those. my advice: several similar cameras + a system unit with an FTP server + additional sending of alarms to a large external mailbox.

As a person professionally involved in the installation of video surveillance systems and having more than a dozen objects with different tasks, I will advise this!
Definitely a registrar (set it and forget it, you don't need a computer, unlike the board, it's cheaper, many times more reliable), I advise Vesta or Jasun for companies.
At the expense of the registrar, you can also connect via the Internet and in those models that I wrote above there is motion detection, that is, you can set up recording only when you move, you can connect any device to the alarm outputs that will give its own signal (SMS, siren, etc. )
With electricity like this - you buy a BBP (an uninterrupted power supply), you put a battery - you connect the registrar and cameras to the BBP - a current of at least 5Amps! in total, after turning off half an hour, it definitely works!
I put registrars everywhere - but the current is checked - for the year 9 service visits - two for video processing (catching a thief) and one camera burned out! other foreign objects, alterations and dorobotki!
If you have any more questions please contact us! Always happy to help, I can do it! Write in the group - I leave the link below.
I live in Kaliningrad!

- notification when fixing movement by mail or sms;

This is probably the most difficult point. But quite doable.
I prefer avreg and IP cameras with POE. True, there are so many cameras on the market that I'm tired of choosing. Bought for work, so the question of price was not. I bought expensive ones. Avreg itself is not configured with half a kick, but the answers to all questions are on the site and in the mailing list. This solution is for Linux. You can send SMS using a gsm modem, for sure there is already a trodden path.
A video capture card is only good if it is a ready-made solution (board + drivers + program) for a computer or a ready-made DVR, but I agree with vovochkin, Chinese DVRs are terribly buggy. But you can read, choose, Praxis DVRs personally advised me. This solution has one more minus - it is a larger number of wires and DVRs are not very flexible in setting, if he does not know how to send SMS, then he most likely cannot be taught.
An IP camera with POE and some software for Windows is also not a bad solution. I used software from iTV, not to say that it was cheap, but everything worked stably and with half a kick. It’s also not a problem to come up with sending SMS in Windows, and for sure this has already been implemented in some products, but probably paid ones.
After turning off the power, everything usually rises back by itself, the system starts, the program starts, and it starts receiving a signal from the cameras. It is advisable to provide a UPS, because the light can be turned off on purpose. IR illumination or emergency lighting is also useful.
And the archive. It is desirable to provide that the data is merged somewhere on an external server. They will take the computer along with the property.

From ip-cameras I can advise ZenithG7W. It is well suited for creating a wireless video surveillance system, has a high image quality. It has a night mode. Works in all weather conditions. It also has a built-in motion sensor, it is possible to send photos to ftp or e-mail. Can be controlled even from mobile devices. Read more here

I bought myself a Zenith G7W IP camera www.electrovenik.ru/catalog/cifrovaya_tekhnika/set... . The guys from the company helped me set everything up as I needed remotely, and without any questions, it’s clear that they know their stuff. The camera shoots perfectly, the wires certainly will not be cut, since it is wireless. I am satisfied with the camera, I advise.

in vain you dismiss registrars, a more reliable system than an old computer .. now you can buy a registrar for 2 ip cameras for 3650 rubles + ar... archive, after a power outage, it turns on itself and no system errors (which happens in Windows) are a hindrance, - sending email to mail by movement is configured at a time, - convenient software for tablets and smartphones with viewing the archive - small sizes can be hidden in a secluded place IP the camera is cheap, but angry from hikvision for just... well, if you need more than 2 cameras, you can buy an IP registrar for 4 IP cameras for 5500 rubles
IP registrar for 8 ip cameras for
10450 rubles if 2 cameras: PSU 12V 1.5 A, we take into account the loss of signal.
The second option is to purchase a poe switch for the required number of cameras.
The third option is separate PoE PSUs like this

Another interesting option for inexpensive video surveillance for the home: web-camera (or ip-camera) + router + flash drive.
We install the webglazok firmware on the router and get a remote cloud video surveillance system.
The kit is cheap. As of April 2017: camera on aliexpress - 1500 rubles, router 1200 rubles, flash drive 300-500 rubles. Assembly instructions here

Each video surveillance system must be selected individually. If you want to get the best possible result and not overpay for more cameras than you need. If you need help with the selection, you can send us a plan of the room, the conditional location of the cameras and the height of the installation. You can see the equipment here .
