Why did you assume that all this will work in linux? Commercial programs such as photoshop - immediately past (wine will not help). Games - 90% past, no matter what they say about steam and playonlinux - well, a stone flower does not come out :) Old games - zero, mid-tenths - maybe they will work.
Adapted packages are usually placed in /usr. Non-adapted "all-my-carry-with-with me" types (virtualbox, rar, thunderbird) - in /opt
