In what direction to move with knowledge of Java Core?

Welcome all! At the moment, I spent about a year learning Java Core. I have worked on several well-known books, took Java Rush courses and wrote a couple of applications on Android + I have an understanding of the main components of Java EE. I understand that you need to choose the area of programming based on your interests and perhaps the technology stack will change over time more than once, but at the moment I would like to choose an area for myself in which it would be interesting to develop and it would not be a pity for the years spent. At first I wanted to go to the Web in Java, but after reading on the Internet that Java in this area is only a harsh and confusing enterprise and the area is extremely boring. This confused me a little. I perfectly understand that any field has its own routine, but still I would like to work with interesting technologies while I am young. What fascinates me about Android is the ability to work with new, exciting technologies and the ability to see the results of my work. But, having analyzed the mobile application market, one gets the feeling that no one needs mobile applications anymore. People use several popular applications and that's it. The market is oversaturated with dummies and mobile applications are already in most cases the usual wrapper for any web application. All logic revolves mainly on the backend. And here the question arises - is this really so or do I not understand anything in this market?) Also, the small number of vacancies is embarrassing (I live in St. Petersburg). Basically, there are vacancies from the same firms throughout the year. I understand that such questions are asked regularly and perhaps even my question will be screened out by the moderators, but I would like to turn to people who who are already working in these areas and just hear the answer - everything that I wrote here is all far-fetched and the consequences of reading forums or is it like the truth? In what direction would you advise moving with this background? Thanks to all)

Everywhere there are both interesting and boring tasks. It is up to you to choose, at first you will not be bored, in any case you will learn a lot of new things, and then you can already go and look for other tasks, places of work. It's hard to believe that there are few vacancies in St. Petersburg and they are all dull. You can grow in either direction. It really depends on your preferences and enjoyment. In general, they are far from being in a hurry to implement the latest everywhere, and this does not depend on the language and platform - no one wants to unjustifiably risk switching to a new one without much benefit. I would suggest in web. Maybe become a full stack. Study the client side and, if you really don’t like it in the Java world, slowly swim over to the front or js world. Already it’s straight sausage from new technologies, you won’t get bored.)

Also confuses a small number of vacancies (I live in St. Petersburg).

How is your place of residence related to the offers of employers?
This is not true. The market is diverse and there is a need for specialists who can do something other than wrapping for the web. There are just a lot of the latter and they are cheaper, but this does not mean that there are no serious projects.
Just a few days ago I saw that someone here complained that they could not find an android specialist with experience in the field of "augmented reality".

I would look in the direction of mobile development specifically ... I am often called and there are many vacancies here, plus the work is interesting and promising. And often they call for a separate application, for some specific function, smartphone and Company...

I am sad because of the lack of knowledge in the field of Java Core, and you are sad that there is this knowledge, but you don’t know what to do with it. You have a very tricky profession. With such knowledge, it is possible to make great money. If you know English, you need to look for foreign forums (in Yahoo, Google) on your subject, there are many of them, choose with high attendance. Sign up and start asking questions. Whoever knocks will be opened.
Here is an example forum: warriorforum.com. Good luck :)

In my opinion, you have described your experience very poorly. A year is very little and without real practice, it is actually zero.
I will not give advice, because. Only when faced with tasks can you understand whether they are interesting to you or not. Don't waste your time settling for the hardest thing you can find.
