In Debain 7.x, how to notify about packages that have updates when logging in via SSH?

I remember once this was in Ubuntu, but in Debian I can not find how to do it. In Google I found instructions on how to set up automatic updates, or notifications on soap. But what I need is a notification when logging in via SSH.
To avoid running apt-get update every time...

Apparently you need the landscape package ( landscape -common ).
