1. Specifically, Petya ignores network drives, encrypts only local ones. Others may not ignore and encrypt wherever they can reach.
2. A good backup system does not provide direct access to backups. You can write to a backup, but you can’t delete or overwrite it, and even just download it back.

if the system has constant access to the backup ball, then it is quite natural that the virus from this system has constant access to files.
one of the solutions is to block versioning on the ubuntu file system, which is not available via sambe,
or not to use leaky technologies :) but this is more difficult.
