If you buy links, then after reaching the TOP, do you need to continue buying links?

There is a site, before links for promotion were not bought. The link mass of the site is minimal. If now you start actively buying links, let's say, 1 per day (high-quality), then after the site enters the TOP for queries, should you continue to buy links? How will search engines perceive it?
Every day for several months, 1 new link appeared from a new resource to the site, the site went to the TOP and then bam - external links no longer appear. Is it possible for this to get under the filter of search engines? Or, after reaching the TOP, can you already focus only on content and not buy links?
Who has any experience with this?

Let's use the term "get links".
So, your site has no problems with content, there are good competitive advantages. You start getting links from good sources, the positions gradually rise, the dynamics pleases - you take the top.
Isn't it logical that if you were getting links even without being in the top - you should continue to get links to confirm the quality of your resource. I'm not specifically talking about purchased links, but you should see good sites continue to link to the page.
Experience such, is called "it depends". For example, for a group of requests with low competition, you can do a good job 1 time and get traffic for a long time, but in highly competitive topics, if you stop / stop following the topic, do not be surprised if the requests suddenly fly out of sight.
Filter / no filter depends on your luck and ability to follow hints and follow the reaction of the PS.

Reduce the intensity of the purchase and increase the "quality" of the purchased links.
