If the router has a usb port, after the firmware it will support the modem?

Hello. Some modems have usb ports. If they are flashed, will they support 3g / 4g modems or do they need some kind of built-in chip for this?
And yet, I was told that some firmware changes the TTL of the modem, even if it is fixed. How can this be if the modem's TTL is fixed?

Thanks in advance

Firmware dependent.

Changing the TTL of a packet during routing is set programmatically (the initial value is a constant written in the firmware). It is not surprising that in the new firmware it may not be the same as in the old one. In general, it also depends on the firmware.
