IEEE 1394 to USB adapter need a driver?

Good day to all.
There is a miniDV video camera on which there is a 1394 port; it must be connected to a laptop (WinXP) that does not have 1304, but has USB.
There is an adapter 1394 -> USB and when you connect the camcorder through it, it is detected as an "unknown device".
Please tell me how to make the system detect the video camera? Any driver needed?

One is probably needed. After connecting the device, look at the VID-PID of this device and google it, maybe there is something. Or according to the adapter model.

At a minimum, you need a camera driver. And as I remember from practice, it is put before connecting the camera to the PC.
