IE8 finally went crazy... ((

I already addressed the question to Habr, but the problem turned out to be more serious.

IE8 (under Windows XP Prof OEM, persons) started behaving strangely after the next automatic update of the system: it prompts you to enter a password on the pages of trusted sites. The password is saved, but the password entry window itself periodically appears, you have to press OK. Not always, but from time to time, about every 3-5 clicks. Those. using the admin panel of any password-protected site turns into torment.

Apparently, somehow IE can't save the settings. Security zone settings can only be changed through the registry. If you change them in IE itself, they are not saved. But even when changing them through the registry, they apparently do not work.

After two weeks of torment, I decided to reset the settings. And then hell began. I can't save anything. I can't save the settings of the pop-up blocker on the website of the client bank (it needs to be disabled!). I can’t add any site to trusted ones - the message “Nodes added to this zone must have the https:// prefix” ALWAYS appears - and regardless of whether I add a site with https:// or not, and regardless of whether checkbox "All hosts in this zone require https:// verification". In short, sites are simply not added in any version and that's it.

I tried all this from under the built-in "Administrator" account. Absolutely the same effect. My current user is also an administrator.

I have a bank-client running under IE8, as well as site admins written specifically for IE.

How to get IE back to normal, please tell me!!!

And in the end ... The solution was nevertheless found. When I finally got tired of fighting with IE, I took regmon from winternals and looked at IE calls to the registry. It turned out that when trying to write there, the result is ACCESS DENIED. Running as Administrator didn't help either. And then it dawned on me to look in the antivirus settings. I don’t know how it happened, but IE access to the registry was blocked there. When I removed this rule, all problems immediately disappeared.

It is easier to quit this business, use normal browsers, and for client banks, etc., start a virtual machine and use it from there.

Oddly enough, but the advice above (about changing the browser) may not be so moronic ... I don’t know what’s wrong with IE, but I know that you can emit an explorer in chrome. I did this when I had to use some strange admin panel also written for it, and so, this extension solved all the problems chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ie-tab/hehijbfgiekmjfkfjpbkbammjbdenadd
There are already 10 or 11 browsers in the series, maybe they will solve the problem.

I have a bank-client running under IE8, as well as site admins written specifically for IE.

In general, it is best to install Win7 and IE 10 for these purposes. I also use a couple of admin panels for old IE, everything works fine in compatibility mode.
