I updated PHP to 5.6, the server does not allow installing plugins, what should I do?

There was a version of php 5.3 with Fast CGI support, I updated php to version 5.6 without Fast CGI support
Previously, plugins were installed and updated without problems
Now, when set by the owner, NOT apache offers to use uploading to the server via FTP, wrote in wp-config: define ('FS_METHOD ', 'direct');
Everything began to be "installed" without FTP, but it does not get up - it gives an error: It is impossible to create a folder or directory
Changed the owner and group from the one I created on the server installation (3 years ago) to apache, everything began to work correctly, but of course work ceased to be possible by FTP - no rights
The support service answers once a day, until I dumped them - help me, what and where should I register for the old user so that the sites correctly install plugins, or what and where should I register for the apcache user so that everything works via FTP?
I can't anymore, thanks!

@alexr64

what and where you need to register the apcache user so that everything works via FTP

The user is nothing. FTP server - either start and run as apache user, or map ftp user to apache unix user.
