I'm watching a video on my computer, a black screen in the player, what should I do?

I'm watching a video from a computer - a black screen in the player, with a blue one. On the web it's fine. I sin on codecs or old equipment. Another 512M of memory.
PS VinHR lagged, lubunta flies.
UPD: The problem is localized - the decoder decodes, but does not output. VLC showed statistics.

@kisik2010

Found a solution. In the settings I set the output through X11. Earned.

According to the symptoms - it's codecs. Usually solved by installing, for example, k-lite.
512M memory - norms, enough for video.
well, yes, check if a (specific) video is broken

Disable or change hardware acceleration. VLC has options.
Doesn't work - try players with other engines, say mplayer/vlc/bomi etc.
