I got an error that the PowerPoint file is corrupt, what is causing this?

I received an error message that the PowerPoint file is corrupted, but it can still be opened (Error message attached). I tried to re-save the file, but even after that I could not change anything, because the program shows the message "not responding". Any ideas as to what is causing this? and how can this be fixed?
