I can not choose the direction for freelancing. What is relevant?
I really want to work from home and I am ready to study hard for this in order to gain skills on my own, but I can’t choose a direction, because the reviews are very mixed, and I can’t choose “what interests me”, because I'm basically interested in everything (except artificial intelligence and things like sound engineering). I speak English at a high level, I can devote 30+ hours a week to studying.
Most of all at the moment I'm looking at 3D modeling, but I'm also attracted to the development of websites, software development for mobile devices and graphic design. I would like to know how relevant all this is? How realistic is it to achieve paid and relevant skills in a short time (for a year, one and a half, or even 9 months)?
Is layout relevant in 2020 and beyond? Many say no...

Freelancing is not working from home. Freelancing is primarily self-organization and independence in finding a client, in agreements, in solving payment problems. And you can't even choose your own direction.
You most likely need not freelance, but remote work under a contract. See what vacancies are available, learn what is indicated in the requirements. Whatever direction you choose, there will always be something that you will not like.
In a year, something is mastered by those who already have a huge background from school and some skills and an understanding of what's what. No one will say what you will succeed in a year, people learn very differently, the spread between a year and 15 years is too large to specify something for a random person on the Internet.
Freelancing is always in demand. The path is really simple. The Chinese have a saying "a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step"
- find applications on the exchanges in this direction. Do it for yourself, learn, solve problems that arise. Add results to your portfolio. You complete several applications, then look at your deadlines and only after that you try to take a real order.
- First you need to choose one direction. Skills and experience are needed everywhere, and they directly depend on time. In years.
What matters is what you can do well.
Good professionals are needed in every field. Beginners (with the exception of geniuses) are not needed by anyone.
If you plan to master the listed skills in 9 months - a year and a half, I think it will not work, because everything you are interested in requires a longer immersion in order to achieve professional results in these areas. In most cases (from my practice and my environment), the scheme is as follows - first work in a company, in a team, pumping skills, developing a portfolio, after understanding that I have outgrown the company professionally, going freelance or remote with more interesting and complex tasks. In the absence of good freelancing skills, you will perform a routine for little pay, which will make you sick. And be prepared for the fact that freelancing needs one and a half to two times (compared to a full-time employee) to be more efficient, more stress-resistant, more organized and constantly self-learn.
And everything that shows professionalism and high performance is relevant.
