How well do you need to know English when working with Upwork.com?

Hello.
Interested in whether basic knowledge of English + google.translate is enough when working with Upwork.com?
What can be tricks in communication? What are the pitfalls?
Thanks a lot to everyone who responded!

Here you need to understand that for the customer the main thing is your professionalism, and not knowledge of English, and they will simply turn a blind eye to most mistakes, they will not even notice them. But, as it was correctly noted above, if serious projects appear, which, for example, require weekly / daily rallies on Skype, or just calls with the customer 1 on 1, then you will quickly float.
However, during the year of working on upwork, I only encountered the need to call a couple of times, and then one of these times the customer was Russian) Therefore, let English not be your obstacle, you can and should start with a basic level, but you must definitely invest time and money in learning English, otherwise it will be difficult to move beyond not too large one-time orders.

Google Translate is enough for the eyes.
Including on expensive orders.
On the cheap ones, they are just spoiled by Indians who know English well.
And on difficult ones, your qualifications are much more important than knowledge of the language.

Enough for low-level orders.
When something more serious comes along, which will require long discussions with the customer or even phone calls, this is where the problem will appear.
