How to write a test task for a web developer?
There is a need to interview candidates for the position of a web developer. His responsibilities: developing a website with adaptive layout on Bitrix cms, as well as writing a REST API for interacting with mobile applications. I have not dealt with interviews of such specialists before, and I am not able to competently assess the quality of their code. What can be done in this case? What test task will be correct so that the candidate can complete it in 48 hours, and it would be possible to understand from the result of his work that he is really suitable for the position?
the following options are considered: -
make up a site template with adaptive layout according to the finished design (psd)
- write the simplest REST API

According to the requirements - this is a good specialist. Most likely, you will first need to come up with something very tasty to offer, so that he would agree to take on a test (!) Task compiled by a non-specialist (!) Using the Internet (!), For which you also need to spend 2 (!) days.
If you do not have a specialist who is more competent than the one you want to hire, then the exit is 2:
1. As you have already been told, find such a person (this should not be a lot of problems, managers should value their reputation very much)
2. See reviews of his work, recommendations. See github and linkedin. See previous experience. I don't think it would be embarrassing for you or him to get a real recommendation from one of his previous employers. The point is. If there is no one who will competently evaluate knowledge (it is difficult even for someone who understands the topic better), then the only way out is trust.
No tests will help. And for such requirements, it is not a fact that many suitable people will undertake to solve it.

Read, I think a lot will become clear
More important is experience. Talk to the person, find out what he did, how, how much time he spent, what tasks he solved, what tasks he considers difficult (solved by him). And the problem is only the one that you have already solved yourself. See how he solves it, how he explains his decisions.
Well, since Bitrix, then he must have Bitrix certificates. There are a lot of them, all are taken as exams for knowledge of Bitrix and, in fact, programming.
Z.Y. A very strange position. Layout designer and programmer (with a bias in Bitrix). These are two positions. You want a wagon. Pro means in a particular one will not. Consider this right away. For what would be a pro in both specialties, this is not a small budget needed for his salary. These are usually poached. Or they take the middle peasant in both positions.
