How to write a Python request library yourself?

Please tell me where to dig?
I would like to write the entire library myself (of the requests type) in order to better understand how everything works.
There is an idea to get into github and read the sources of the requests library, but is this the right step?

I just looked at the source code - requests is as simple as 3 kopecks, since it is most likely an add-on over urllib3.

Given the fact that this library is installed by default in many Linux distributions, and is one of the most popular in Python, yes.
