How to work with a test repository on a hosting?

Good day! A bit new to git.
Tell me, please, in which direction to dig: here we have a working online store on PrestaShop 1.6. Of course, over time, changes are made to the engine and template, etc., which first need to be tested. For these purposes, I decided to create a copy of the site on the same hosting (Why not locally? Because there are problems with the database and I don’t like the page generation speed). So, hosting allows you to deploy a repository through your web interface terminal and work with it. The task is to post the changes made to the public. In this case, I would like to use a GUI client - SourceTree, for example. I just don’t understand, is it possible to see the statuses of the remote repository in it? That is, so that the client does not pull a turnip from there and creates a local copy, but reads branches and commits directly from a remote location. Any ideas?

Make another branch and throw your work there. I don't understand what is the problem?
