How to work remotely in a team with a designer?

Given:
Layout designer + partially backend -
1 pc Trainee designer - 1 pc
They live in different cities, work at different times, which is why direct communication is a rather rare occurrence.
How to properly organize collaboration and control over the development process?
I have no experience of working in a team, especially remotely - but I want to eat.

There, in the comments, they wrote, they say, why should the designer and layout designer need a direct connection at all - do not listen. How many deadlines were overdue, how many features were not implemented or implemented in the wrong way, how many ideas were lost, etc. due to the fact that at some point the designer did not communicate with the coder.
We work remotely, and regularly we get into stupid situations with the designer due to the fact that we did not understand each other, or did not discuss something.
You have the right approach to business, stick to it further.
Out of sync in time is not so important here, the main thing is not to hesitate to discuss the most stupid questions with the designer, to clarify blurry details, and not to think for others.
I recommend the invision service - an extremely convenient thing. On the fly, you can discuss layouts, comment on how a button is pressed, upload pictures in one click, etc. For coders, there is a chic layout viewer that will completely replace Photoshop, and even more. And sadly, in this mode, you can’t screw up the layout) in the end, everyone is happy: the designer changed something in the layout, pressed a button in fsh / sketch, and the layout automatically flew to the cloud, and sent a notification. The coder saw the update, and happily ran to poke and rustle around the layout, not being afraid to break something (and subsequently make it wrong).
And there you can use animations to show which elements interact with what. Goodness! And there is a free plan)
