How to upgrade your phone?

I have a Sony Go (ST27i), which I no longer feel sorry for. It's not a pity, because it slows down and is buggy in every possible way.
I want to put Cyanogen on it, or naked Android, or something else. To make it beautiful, quick and easy.
Since I am a complete noob in phones, I ask you for tips. Where to go and what to read? I don't want to kill my phone. I want to keep using it.

If in more detail, as a rule, "firmware" is searched for a specific phone model, after that there are 2 firmware options, or the file is thrown onto a USB flash drive and "filled" by the phone itself, it's not dangerous if you make a backup there. Or through a special utility, which is indicated in the description of the firmware, it is more dangerous, in which case the phone can be turned into a brick.

In the case of Sony, before installing third-party firmware, you will most likely have to do the following:
1. Unlock the bootloader.
In many branded android phones, the bootloader is locked, which makes it impossible to install third-party kernels and firmware. Sony phones have a special bootloader unlock procedure, I used it for the Xperia P. You can google for the phrase "Xperia Go unlock bootloader" or "Xperia Go unlock bootloader"
2. Install a modified bootloader (well, or recovery, whatever). This tool is subsequently used to install any modified firmware, kernels, etc. right from your phone.
To do this, you will need a specific set of tools - ADB and fastboot. Writing a new bootloader to the phone is performed with one console command.
After the above manipulations, by going into the modified bootloader, you can download the archive with the firmware to the phone via USB and then install it.
The first two points are the most problematic, if you deal with them, then everything is like clockwork.
