How to update group policy templates correctly (on the example of Chrome policies)?

Once upon a time, admx policy templates for chrome were copied to the central policy repository. Let's say the current version was 56. Based on the templates, policies were created that work.
Now the current version of chrome 65, the templates have been updated - new options have appeared, the old ones have been cut.
If you stupidly take and replace the templates in the repository with new ones, then the policy editor, when opened, will begin to swear that the parameters are specified in the policy, but this is no longer in the template, and it will refuse to build reports on the parameters ...
So what is the right way to update the template repository and related politician with them?

Exactly the same as you described - just take the templates and replace the current ones in the policy definitions folder. Backward compatibility is up to the vendor providing the policies. Well, or, more likely, try re-downloading from another source, perhaps just a broken policy, because. replacement of templates should lead, in extreme cases, to not displaying a number of parameters. if they are not specified in the new templates.
If the new templates really break the snap-in, there is a link in the error to specific problematic templates. And, if it really crashes with other templates, you can compare templates from old and new ones, and manually correct them - these are just xml files, though they are big.
