How to understand the topic of IPTV and build an IPTV network at home?

Hello!
for the purpose of self-education, I want to understand how IPTV works and build a home-made iptv network - launch a home-made broadcast for one or two personal TVs.
As I already understood, I will need Middleware (from the free ones I found Stalker Middleware), and some kind of "stream" that is somehow transferred somewhere.
What can be read on this topic? What educational advice might be helpful in this matter?
I will be glad to any structured information, from unstructured already my head is spinning.
