How to turn on a sleepy monitor in Ubuntu?

It costs Ubuntu 12.04. The monitor goes to sleep after 2 minutes. You need a script to “turn on” (wake up) the monitor. In windows, for these purposes, there was a script on AutoIT that moved the mouse cursor. It seems to me in Linux there should be more graceful ways.

“We asked ourselves, we answer ourselves.”
Team:

xset dpms force on

turns on the monitor.
DPMS (Display Power Manager Signaling) is used - display power management signals, a technology that allows you to control the power of the monitor.

@Hukuta

Maybe you want to turn off screen savers altogether?
To do this, in Startup Applications add
xset -dpms
