Now we are making a normal site on a different hosting, but the domain name should be the same.
How to check?

You need to find out who the domain administrator is; if the client, then register an account for him with the registrar and write an application for transfer from one administrator (wix) to a new registrar (client account).
And if for some reason they register a domain for themselves (which is unlikely then in any way).
