How to transfer a site from one CMS to another?

Hello. There is a news site on DLE. The customer asks to transfer it to WP, but in such a way that all entries are transferred. And these are thousands of news articles over several years. Tell me, what kind of animal is this and in what direction to dig, read, study?

The idea is this - create an empty WP database, in the same place where DLE is, and then transfer everything with scripts.
Pages and posts without any problems, a little more difficult with headings and a library of media files. One-to-one transfer cannot be done due to the different structure, but basically everything is transferred correctly. Porting scripts can be found in the articles "How to port DLE to WP" and / or write / modify it yourself.
Themes are simply not transferred, choose a ready-made one or make a new one.
On the exchange for the transfer a couple of years ago they wanted from 3 to 50 sput. - as an option.
And by the way, there is an opinion that WP under heavy load has worse performance than DLE.

Convert the database to the appropriate view and capture pictures from user input. This is for the data, and the rest is just a custom WP.

If I usually have to deal with such issues, then I do not convert the database to the current CMS system, etc.
As a rule, I do the following:
Writing a parser that will collect all the information and then importing posts, articles, etc.
Or work with REST API. Surely, DLE has some kind of REST API ... Then it remains to get the materials and upload them to the VP through the REST API
